Although it has been more than a year since the first COVID-19 case, there is still much to discover about the viral disease. As we strive to return to normalcy, the global pandemic continues to wreak havoc on economies. The aviation industry is arguably the most affected field due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result of the severity of the disease, many countries locked down their borders, and travel was largely restricted. Consequently, many airplanes were grounded. Even so, authorities are finding ways to remedy this situation. Countries that have been able to get the virus under control, such as Hong Kong and Singapore, have begun allowing air travel between specific destinations in arrangements called travel bubbles.

    What are Travel Bubbles?

In simple terms, a travel bubble is a quarantine-free journey between two destinations. Since the emergence of the novel Coronavirus disease, people have only been able to travel to other countries if they are properly quarantined. While this is all in the best interests, there’s no denying how inconvenient it can be to isolate for two weeks before you can access your preferred destination. Travel bubbles eliminate this inconvenience by providing more suitable measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Perhaps the most notable Air Travel Bubble is the Hong Kong-Singapore Travel Bubble. Although this travel bubble is set to start at a slow pace, it is more than welcomed by the two cities, which rely heavily on international tourism and trade. Still, for tourists and other aspiring visitors of either destination, understanding how the Hong Kong-Singapore travel bubble works is paramount.

What You Need to Know About the Hong Kong-Singapore Travel Bubble

For people who wish to travel between Hong Kong and Singapore, there are plenty of things to take into consideration. Here is a guide to assist those who may need to utilize this travel bubble.

    Vaccination

It is a prerequisite to receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine before you can utilize this travel bubble. For this reason, you’ll need to provide proof that you have received both the first and second doses of the vaccine at least 14 days before your departure. However, there are some groups of people who are exempt from this. They include Hong Kong residents who are below the age of 16 and individuals who are not suitable for the vaccine for medical reasons.

    Eligibility

For you to enjoy the Hong Kong-Singapore Air Travel Bubble, you must have no travel history to any other place apart from the two destinations at least 14 days before your trip. However, this period does not include any period spent under mandatory quarantine.

    Testing

Another vital factor to keep in mind when looking to utilize travel bubbles is the testing required. Anyone looking to use Air Travel Bubbles must undergo a COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test 72 hours prior to their departure. Not only does the test need to turn out negative, but it must also be conducted in an institution recognized by the governments of both destinations. Still, children under the age of six years are exempted from this test. It’s also crucial to note that you will also be required to undergo the PCR test when you arrive and return.

    Requirements

There are a few prerequisites needed before you can use the quarantine-free travel bubbles. First of all, you need to submit your health and travel history for approval. Moreover, you will also be required to provide your accommodation details. If you’re not a citizen, permanent resident, or Long-term Pass holder of either Singapore or Hong Kong, you’ll need to apply for an Air Travel Pass before your journey. Finally, if you’re a foreign visitor of Singapore, you’ll need to download the TraceTogether mobile app for contact tracing purposes.
